The flights of Russian warplanes from the Iranian airbase in Hamedan have not been suspended, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said on August 23, TASS reports.
Russian authorities said their airstrikes from Iran eliminated major weapons depots, training compounds and command posts for the al-Nusra Syrian rebel group and IS fighters.
“Iran’s cooperation with Russian Federation regarding terrorism is strategic”.
Following national worries that Iran has handed over an airbase to another countries, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, head of parliament’s Foreign Policy and National Security Commission said a day later that Russian bombers only refuel at the airbase.
Iran’s parliament on Tuesday pushed back against the military after it appeared to dismiss civilian oversight following Russia’s use of an Iranian air base to launch air strikes on Syria. The article states that Iran will not allow any foreign army to use its bases.
The statements come after Iran’s defense minister, Gen. Hossein Dehghan, criticized Moscow for making public its use of the airport.
Dzhagaryan also made it clear that such cooperation between Tehran and Moscow “may repeat in the future” if necessary, with the approval of the two sides’ high-ranking officials.
Iran showed Russian Federation that it needs to play by its rulebook, no matter how powerful and influential they are. The decision from Iran came within days after Russian Federation went public about the use of one of Tehran’s airbase in Hamadan.
