Russian TV ‘accidentally’ leaks secret nuclear weapons plans

Secret plans for a new Russian nuclear torpedo system have been shown on state-controlled television in what the Kremlin said was an accident.

The slide referred to the torpedo as “self-propelled underwater vehicle” with a range of “up to 10,000km” (6,200 miles) capable of operation in depths “up to 1,000m” (3,300 feet). He proposed targeting the USA with high-yield nuclear torpedoes that would create huge tsunami waves and high levels of radioactivity to render large coastline areas uninhabitable.

“Certain secrets indeed were caught on camera”, Dmitry Peskov told reporters Wednesday, according to Russian news agency Tass. “We are hopeful”, he added, “it will not happen again”.

But it is unclear whether the leak occurred accidentally on objective – as a propaganda message that Russian Federation is still able to launch nuclear strikes at the West despite NATO’s missile shield. The 09852 is a nuclear-powered submarine based on what North Atlantic Treaty Organisation calls the Oscar II-class attack submarine.

According to Russian media reports cited by the BBC, the torpedo can travel at 100 knots (185km/h; 115mph) avoiding all “acoustic tracking devices and other traps”.

“We are talking about development of new types of weapons”.

He said Washington is attempting to gain a “decisive military superiority” over Russian Federation but that Moscow will developing “strike systems capable of piercing any missile defenses”.

During a discussion of military hardware on Russian television, details of a new nuclear torpedo system were inadvertently revealed.

The Kremlin has constantly protested the expansion of the so-called United States anti-missile system by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization along Russia’s borders in East Europe, calling it a direct threat to Moscow.

Earlier, this year the Defense Ministry announced there will be no cuts to the program despite economic difficulties in Russian Federation.

“Their true aim is to neutralize the strategic nuclear potential of other nuclear countries … especially our country”, Putin said.

However, Putin argued Tuesday that such precautions should no longer be necessary following Iran’s deal with six world powers to curb its nuclear program.
