Russian TV ‘Accidentally’ Reveals Nuclear Torpedo That Would Create

Damn. The Kremlin has officially admitted that two Kremlin-controlled TV stations, NTV and Channel One, accidentally broadcast “secret plans” for a nuclear torpedo system. According to the Russian site, the torpedo’s detention “in the area of the enemy coast” would result in “extensive zones of radioactive contamination” that would ensure that the region would not be used for “military, economic, business or other activity” for a “long time”.

During a broadcast on Channel One and KTV showing Vladimir Putin meeting with military officials on Monday, the camera cut to an over-the-shoulder angle of one official reading a document.

“It’s true a few secret data got into the shot, therefore it was subsequently deleted”, spokesman for Russian president Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Peskov, said. “We hope this will not happen again”.

The Kremlin has said the airing of the blueprints was an accident, but independent experts say they were leaked in a deliberate attempt by Russian Federation to scare the West.

Mr Putin has held four meetings on defence issues this week, reflecting the close attention he is paying to military modernisation at a time of heightened tensions with the United States and Europe over the crisis in Ukraine.

The slide describes the weapons system as a “self-propelled underwater vehicle”, or a torpedo, with the capability to “assure unacceptable damage” to enemy forces, RT reported.

He proposed targeting the USA with high-yield nuclear torpedoes that would create huge tsunami waves and high levels of radioactivity to render large coastline areas uninhabitable. Pavel Felgenhauer, an independent military analyst, told AP, the new system is an update on Sakharov’s idea.

And the Ocean Multipurpose System apparently has its own nuclear propulsion plant, based on analysis by Miasnikov, which would make a range of 10,000 kilometers (6,200 miles) feasible. If ever detonated, they would create a devastating radioactive tsunami.

We should also note, a state-run newspaper published details of the torpedo weapon after the footage aired on TV, so it’s probably extra-unlikely the Russian government’s all that concerned about this information getting out. However, according to the leaked paper, the weapons system could be developed by the Rubin design bureau for marine engineering, and may potentially be delivered using nuclear-powered “Project 09852” and “Project 09851” submarines.

He said the Western defence project was “an attempt to undermine the existing parity in strategic nuclear weapons and essentially to upset the whole system of global and regional stability”.
