Rutgers agrees to hire Ohio State’s Ash as coach
Ohio State co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach Chris Ash is finalizing details to be Rutgers’s new head coach, according to a source. He will be introduced Monday.

After Maryland made MI defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin its new head coach earlier this week, another Big Ten East team is going to fill its head-coaching vacancy with a coordinator from inside the division.
Ohio State has had a terrific defense while Ash has been there. Prior to his one season at the SEC’s Arkansas, Ash coached at the University of Wisconsin from 2010-2012.
Sports Illustrated first reported the talks between Rutgers and Ash. Al Golden and former RU head coach Greg Schiano had also been rumored candidates for the position.
Ohio State’s defense is one of the stingiest in the nation, allowing just 14 points per game (second in the FBS). The Buckeyes won the national title last season and were 11-1 this season. Being in a state that has some of the best recruits in the country, Ash has the chance to make Rutgers a power program in the Big Ten.

In addition, seven Rutgers players were arrested this season on charges varying from home invasion to assault. Patrick Hobbs was hired to replace Hermann.
