Rwandans march against plastic pollution

Each year World Environment Day is organised with a theme that benefits the people and environment all over the world.

By signing the Code of Conduct, the global partners have committed to assessing their current office practices related to single-use plastic and instituting operational changes to minimise their plastic waste footprint.

He said the Federal government is now working on a National Policy on Plastic Waste Management, to regulate the use and disposal of plastics in the country.

In line with resolutions taken at the UN General Assembly (UNGA) and UN Environmental Assembly (UNEA), the Study showed that only 21% of plastic waste is recycled.

Hundreds of Rwandans on Sunday marched in the capital city of Kigali to encourage the public to join the effort to address plastic pollution. Oxfam and its partners have mobilized students, in fabric bag distributions, plastic cleanup drives and tree plantations in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Multan, Lahore and Karachi to help mitigate plastic pollution in Pakistan.

Akbaruddin warned that the scale and urgency of the problem were increasing by the day and success can only be achieved by raising awareness and taking action across the world.
