Ryan Fitzpatrick To Remain Jets’ Starting QB When Geno Smith’s Healthy

Jets coach Todd Bowles confirms WR Devin Smith is over his ribs injury, but isn’t up to speed on the playbook and his conditioning.

“We’re doing good. We have good chemistry going and everything else”. Specifically he was asked if Ryan Fitzpatrick would remain the quarterback when Geno Smith gets healthy.

The Jets’ fast start has captured the attention of the league and has the mainstream media looking to jump on the bandwagon, but the truth is despite what we’ve seen thus far this team has a long way to go.

Bowles said that Smith went through his first full practice since having his jaw broken by teammate IK Enemkpali in the locker room in August.

QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (22-of-34, 244 yards, two touchdowns, one interception) continued to cement his grip on the starting job with an impressive performance.

Fitzpatrick was backed up the first two weeks by raw rookie Bryce Petty, whom the Jets hope to keep off the field this season.

If G. Smith were ready to play this week, would Fitzpatrick still the starting quarterback

An MRI on Tuesday revealed the wide receiver has a sprain, but not structural or ligament damage, and coach Todd Bowles said Decker is “day to day”.

Contrast that to Ryan’s reaction on September 21, 2009, when the Jets, fresh off a week filled with trash talk, improved to 2-0 by upsetting the New England Patriots 16-7 at the Meadowlands.

Fitzpatrick has made the most of his opportunity since taking over in Smith’s absence.

The defense might not be able to get much better.

The Patriots won the AFC East in each of Ryan’s six seasons with the Jets, qualified for the conference title game four times, reached two Super Bowls and finally won the franchise’s fourth championship in February.

It is only getting easier for the Jets this week. “Time will tell. We have a little bit of time, so I’m hopeful, but it’s not out of the realm that he won’t play, either”.

Brees has a rotator cuff contusion, the result of a hard hit to his throwing shoulder early in the second quarter in the Saints’ Week 2 loss to the Buccaneers. Defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers oversaw a game plan that forced five turnovers and kept the Colts out of sorts all night. The Eagles have struggled to establish a run game and dictate their patented breakneck pace of play.

Ryan will get all the first team reps. The Jets had only two touchdowns in their Monday night win over an Indianapolis team that was decimated at cornerback. “So once he gets back into that flow, I think it will start coming back to him pretty good”.
