Ryan Harrison breaks through at US Open with upset of Milos Raonic

A surprise quarterfinalist at the French Open this year, she received treatment on her right arm during the second set.

He is given a costume that, frankly, is whatever a sportswear giant is featuring on its pros, for marketing purposes, at the U.S. Open (tennis-yellow, with little black splashes that appear to be bugs on a windshield.) He is matched against the recent Wimbledon runner-up, to set about pressuring that overwhelming favorite into a case of nervous stress that leads to debilitating cramps.

Djokovic’s walkover resulted in France’s Gael Monfils’ match with Czech Jan Satral being moved to Arthur Ashe Stadium, and Monfils continued his strong start to the Open with a straight sets win, 7-5, 6-4, 6-3 in just under two hours. He had been 0-6 in second-round matches. Baghdatis eliminated 32nd-seeded Benoit Paire of France 6-2, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.

Raonic – and Canadian tennis fans – were hoping he could take the next step big step here at the U.S. Open and actually win a Grand Slam championship. How cool is it to have him with me at the Open?

Canadian fifth seed and Wimbledon runner-up Raonic was stunned, going down to American Ryan Harrison 6-7 (4-7) 7-5 7-5 6-1.

“It was extremely physical out there”.

Ryan Harrison, a 24-year-old American who has struggled to approach the expectations placed on him, played the match of his life Wednesday at the US Open.

The 13th-seeded Konta went down late in the second set Wednesday against Tsvetana Pironkova.

The 26-year-old Dane recovered from 0-4 down in the first set to record a seventh win in eight meetings and third in NY over the ninth-seeded Russian. I started playing qualifying in D.C. There was a lot of nerves and stress.

The end result was inevitable in the fourth set as Raonic found it hard to cover the court and Harrison comfortably sealed a place in the last-32 of a Grand Slam for the first time.

Djokovic will face 51st-ranked Guido Pella or No. 61 Mikhail Youzhny in the third round Friday.

But Raonic hit right back with a break of his own and sent the set to a tiebreak which he won when Harrison double faulted.

Raonic fell behind 5-2 in the second set but fought back to tie it 5-5 before losing the next two games. I forced a little bit. Nadal obliged, but couldn’t get the ball far enough, then said with a smile: “Impossible for me”. “I did the best that I could with the cards that I had”, said Konta.

Atherton’s CiCi Bellis is sticking around a little longer at the U.S. Open this time.

Britain’s Kyle Edmund backed up his first round win over world number 15 Richard Gasquet with a 7-5, 6-4, 6-4 victory over USA wildcard Ernesto Escobedo.

Harrison’s countryman John Isner advanced in four over Steve Darcis as did Jack Sock who steamrolled Mischa Zverev.

The seventh-seeded Italian beat American Christina McHale 6-1, 6-3 on Wednesday, needing just 22 minutes to win the first set.
