Ryan: Never asked for Trump’s endorsement

Mike Pence will meet with Arizona Senator John McCain Tuesday, just hours after his running mate Donald Trump said he wouldn’t endorse the former Republican presidential nominee for re-election.

Those are very close to the words Ryan used in the long months before he endorsed Trump, telling CNN in May, “I’m not there right now”.

McCain, seeking a sixth Senate term, faces a three-way battle in his August 30 primary.

While Trump has beefed with both men in the past, this most recent bout of childish antics likely stems from both Ryan and McCain’s support of Khizr and Ghazala Khan, parents of dead U.S. Army captain Humayun Khan, who humiliated Trump at the Democratic National Convention by calling him out as the poser he is.

Ryan’s “opponent is a big fan of what I’m saying – big fan”, Trump told The Post. Trump indicated he was “not there yet” much in the way Ryan said of Trump three months ago.

“I’m just not there yet”, Trump said in the interview. “I’m not quite there yet”, Trump said of Ryan. In a statement Ryan said: “Many Muslim Americans have served valiantly in our military, and made the ultimate sacrifice”.

“I know she’s given me no support – zero support – and yet I’m leading her in the polls”, Trump said of Ayotte.

But the refutation of Ryan, who represents Racine County in Congress, carried particular derision.

But on Monday, Nehlen got a Twitter shout-out from Donald Trump, which could certainly boost his numbers.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich, a longtime Trump critic, rushed to the defense of Ryan, McCain and Ayotte, tweeting that they are “great leaders” who are “critical to holding our conservative majorities” in Congress.

“My pleasure, Sir”, he wrote. The Republican nominee can’t let go of a perceived slight, no matter the potential damage to his presidential campaign or political reputation. He said that he was giving Ryan “very serious consideration”. “Why, somebody who has said divisive, hateful, racist things, even insulted John McCain himself and yet he still supports him”, said Kirkpatrick.

For Donald Trump, it’s become a familiar pattern.

Nehlen has been running to the right of Ryan, targeting the speaker over issues like trade, Wall Street and immigration. A television ad released by Nehlen last week featured a mother whose son was killed by an immigrant living illegally in the United States. Yet thus far, McCain, Ryan and other Republicans who’ve reluctantly declared that they plan to back Trump for president appear to be sticking with him.

But fundraising records show that much of Nehlen’s financial support is coming from outside the state. But Bradshaw and Comella are among a group of top Republican operatives, messengers, national committee members and donors who continue to decry Trump’s tactics, highlighting nearly daily — with fewer than 100 days before the election — the fissures created by the billionaire and his takeover of the party.
