Ryan not concerned about Palin, primary challenge

Trump hasn’t ruled out removing Ryan as convention chairman. Okay?’ Trump told the program. “Let’s see what happens”, he said on Sunday on NBC’s Meet the Press. This has led many Republicans to say they will not attend the convention in July.

“I’m just not ready to do that at this point”.

“I just want to get to know the guy… we just don’t know each other, ” he said of Trump. “And I think that’s going to take some work, and we need to get on with that”. “People here know me extremely well and they know I’m a person of conviction”, he said. “She’s a terrific person but she’s very much a free agent and I didn’t know about this until yesterday”.

But Ryan said Monday that a third-party or independent bid by conservatives in 2016 “would be a disaster for our party”.

Mr Trump moved from presidential front runner to presumptive nominee last week when he crushed rival Ted Cruz in the in primary, and Mr Cruz dropped out of the race.

But this is especially true of Ryan because, as speaker of the House, he is second in line for the presidency. Ryan said that he wants Trump to stop bullying people and to prove that he supports true conservative issues.

‘He has a bunch riding on this meeting on Thursday. If he really wanted to get out of presiding over the convention, he’d just do it now.

Many longtime Trump opponents are grudgingly coming on board.

The only two surviving Republican presidents, George H.W. and George W. Bush, will not attend the GOP convention. “We shouldn’t sweep it under the rug without addressing it. That would be to our detriment in the fall”, he added.

Ryan also threw some flattery Trump’s way.

“Donald Trump is the Republican presidential nominee”.

For Donald Trump, party unity is a good thing.

“After coming through a very bruising primary, which just ended like a week ago, to pretend we’re unified without actually unifying, then we go into the fall at half strength”. With 1,071 delegates, Trump has 87 percent of the delegates needed to win the Republican nomination for president. It is doubtful that anything is going to come out of the Trump/Ryan meeting. “I got 82 plus percent of the vote from all those Trump people showing up”.

I can’t imagine what Trump could do to make Ryan “ready” to endorse him, but whatever it would be, it wouldn’t be worth the price in honor that Ryan would pay. Trump also told Todd that he didn’t think Ryan’s stance would hurt him.
