Trump thanked Ryan’s Republican Primary challenger Paul Nehlen on Twitter. John McCain in their re-election bids.
Trump’s back-and-forth with Khan’s parents continued to draw rebukes from fellow Republicans across the country Tuesday, including Ryan, who said in a statement Sunday the sacrifice of the Khan family “should always be honored”.
Thursday, Khizr Khan spoke onstage about his Muslim son, a U.S. Army captain killed overseas in 2004, with an address that stirred deep emotions on both sides of the aisle. In a statement, Nehlen wrote a point-by-point defense of Trump’s response to the Khans and stance on terrorism.
McCain, seeking a sixth Senate term, faces a three-way battle in his August 30 primary. “But Paul Ryan is running against someone who’s not going to win but nonetheless he is a strong supporter of Mr. Trump”.
The first noticeable split between nominee and running mate came during the Democratic convention, when Trump encouraged Russian Federation to find and make public missing emails deleted by Hillary Clinton from the private servers she used while secretary of state. “I talked to Donald Trump this morning about my support for Paul Ryan and our longtime friendship”.
“I’m just not there yet”, Trump said, closely echoing Ryan’s own demurral before eventually endorsing Trump, when he told CNN on May 6, “I’m not there right now”.
McCain, who originally endorsed the NY businessman in May, reiterated his support for Trump later on in his statement.
Trump and his vice presidential nominee Mike Pence are scheduled to appear in Green Bay for a town hall event Friday evening.
President Barack Obama on Tuesday challenged Republicans over their support for their presidential nominee given his often-controversial rhetoric on the trail.
Trump incurred widespread criticism after engaging in a public feud with Khizr Khan, the Muslim-American father who spoke out against Trump’s proposed ban on Muslims entering the USA at the Democratic National Convention. The congressman, who has endorsed Trump but asked not to be identified in order to speak freely, said supporting Trump is now more hard given his criticism of the Khan family.

“I call it like I see it and I’m always going to stand up for our military families and what’s best for the people of New Hampshire”, she tweeted after Trump’s remarks were published. “They’re not being treated fairly”.
