Ryan, Trump Feud Cools, But Frustration Lingers
Iowa’s Republican Gov. Terry Branstad appeared with the celebrity businessman at an afternoon rally, his third appearance in the swing state over the past two weeks.

Campaign chairman Paul Manafort insisted Trump would work with Ryan if elected, but he conceded the endorsement question had sparked tension inside Trump’s NY campaign headquarters. Trump has praised Ryan’s opponent, businessman Paul Nehlen. He won the state by running a campaign remarkably similar to the one Ryan is running now, on the issue of trade.
Trump called his Democratic opponent “a risky liar”, “an unbalanced person”, “pretty close to unhinged”, “totally unfit to lead”, and lacking “the judgment, temperament and moral character to lead the country”.
The former secretary of state sought to “clarify and explain” a recent statement on Fox News Sunday that FBI Director James Comey said her answers to the bureau about her use of a private email server were “truthful”. “I was just – I’m full on with the Trump campaign”.
And he acknowledged, “I’ve had to do that from time to time, more than I certainly wanted to”.
“I say, ‘Mike, you like him? Yes”. “I’m not going to try to psychoanalyze this stuff”.

Complicating the Republican Party’s 2016 challenge are fresh signs the nation’s economy is strengthening under a Democratic president.
Trump’s approach to national security came under fire Friday as well, with former CIA Director Michael Morell contending the Republican nominee would make “a poor, even risky commander in chief”. “Every piety that the speaker utters, every moral posture that he strikes, will be received with derision by anyone who remembers the months that he spent urging Americans, albeit through gritted teeth, to make Donald Trump commander in chief”, warns Ross Douthat.
If, as seems more likely, Trump loses, Ryan will emphasize the disagreements and probably apologize in an extremely honest fashion for having supported a bigot and ademagogue. Trump charged on Thursday in vivid detail that the Iranian government released a video of the cash exchange to embarrass America. “And I feel as part of my responsibility of this job, all other things notwithstanding, that I have a duty and an obligation to honor this process”, Ryan said. Trump tweeted Friday morning.
Ryan also responded to Nehlen’s comment this week that there should be a discussion in the US about deporting Muslims.
Ryan told his radio hosts this week that his own endorsement of Trump is not a “blank check”, but refused to speculate on what Trump could say that could cause him to withdraw his support for the GOP nominee.
But the Ryan campaign said it had no knowledge of a pending endorsement.
