HOUSTON – Jason Castro hit a three-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning to give Houston a three-game sweep of Los Angeles.

Martin, who had entered the game two innings earlier as a pinch-runner for Prince Fielder, went to second on Adrian Beltre’s walk and then scored the winning run.

Texas Rangers relief pitcher Wandy Rodriguez talks with catcher Robinson Chirinos, right, in the second inning of a baseball game against the New York Yankees, Tuesday, July 28, 2015, in Arlington, Texas. The former MVP destroyed it for a game-tying three-run homer.

McCann’s two-run shot in the third made it 5-4 after Teixeira reached on a single.

It may or may not come as a surprise to hear that manager Jeff Banister has been placing Choo all over the lineup from lead off and now to the seventh spot. He allowed seven runs and 12 hits in his worst start since April.

Three Yankees runs in the first inning off Gallardo gave Sabathia an early cushion that evaporated in the home half of the frame. He’s 9-7 with a 3.97 ERA in 19 starts for New York this season. “I think he stays focused”. But he struck out in the ninth against Shawn Tolleson (3-2), the Texas closer pitching in a non-save situation. After an Alex Rodriguez groundout, homegrown Ranger Mark Teixeira imitated his younger self with a long drive over the center field wall in Arlington, his 25th homer of the season.

Ellsbury opened the game with an opposite-field triple to left and scored on Gardner’s fly to center. While scoring a run, the play ended the club record-matching nine consecutive games without a double play.

The Post reports Bryan Mitchell will get the ball in Pineda’s place Thursday, making his 10th major league appearance and second start. The 27-year-old right-hander was the team’s fifth-round draft pick out of Vanderbilt in 2009. Texas has used 46 players. For much of the season, that meant game over for the Rangers.

Informed late Wednesday night he would be starting for Michael Pineda, the best thing CC Sabathia had going Thursday evening was the Yankees’ bats. A poor start combined with shaky bullpen appearances lead the Rangers to splitting the four game set.

That said, if Pineda really only does have a bit of forearm tightness, the Yankees might not need to hit the panic button. In the past few days, while one contender after another has added pitching-from the Toronto Blue Jays trading for David Price to the San Francisco Giants adding Mike Leake-the Yankees have stood pat despite issues throughout the rotation.
