The Blue Jays won a game started by Happ for the 12th straight time and he became the third Toronto left-hander to reach 17 wins, joining David Wells and Jimmy Key.

Home plate umpire Scott Barry (87) who came in for Hunter Wendelstadt after Wendelstadt left the game, signals to the pitcher after Toronto Blue Jays’ Melvin Upton Jr. (7) reacts to striking out looking in a baseball game against the New York Yankees in New York, Monday, Aug. 15, 2016.

NEW YORK (AP) – In a tight game, a couple of knuckleballs that floated out of the strike zone cost R.A. Dickey.

Happ won his career-best 11th consecutive decision to become the first 17-game victor in the majors, pitching the Toronto Blue Jays past the New York Yankees 7-4 on Wednesday. “I don’t feel it, but maybe that’s why”. “I felt as strong as I ever have this year”. “I look at is as probably four”.

“I mean obviously he’s swinging the bat really well”, Girardi said. The lefthander struck out four during his fifth straight start with six or more innings and two or fewer runs.

It was the second homer of the night for Sanchez, and both came off of Estrada’s change up; which is surprising because Estrada had only allowed four home runs all year on his change up before this game.

“Even watching it from the other coast, it’s wonderful how explosive we can be”, Melvin Upton Jr., who has played 19 games for Toronto since being acquired from San Diego, told Sporting News. He then proceeded to take out the bottom of the Yankee order in the ninth to complete the save, his 27th of the season.

– Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera was forced to make an early exit from Monday’s game with a left biceps strain. That their lead isn’t bigger is pretty much because of a ragged start that dragged into late May. “I just think it’s a cyclical thing – that when you get on the right vibe, more good happens”.

“If you can try to limit them to solos, you give yourself a chance”.

In the end, Girardi decided he would rather gamble on his new back-of-the-bullpen trio of Tyler Clippard, Adam Warren and Betances than with Pineda’s health and future. Betances held on for his fifth save as the Yankees stopped a five-game losing streak to Toronto. His opposite-field fly ball skimmed over right fielder Judges glove and into the first row of seats for his 21st homer of the year, a two-run shot.

Barreto is still only just 20 years old, but he’s already made it to the double-A Texas League, with the Midland RockHounds.

Green twice struck out reigning AL MVP Josh Donaldson. All of a sudden, the Yankees, who at one point led 6-0 in this game, saw their lead evaporate to just two runs. With runners at second and third, Darwin Barney drove the first pitch he saw down the third-base line for a two-run double.

Blue Jays: OF Ezequiel Carrera (Achilles) could come off the 15-DL Tuesday night. The Yankees brought the tying run to the plate in the inning, but they couldn’t cut into the deficit any further.

Sabathia left after six innings. Ortiz homered in all three games the Red Sox played in Cleveland in his final season.

LHP J.A. Happ can become the first 17-game victor in the American League Wednesday afternoon when he pitches against the Yankees.

The bright spot of last night’s loss, Gary Sanchez, will DH and bat cleanup in a day game after night game scenario.
