Sabres select Alexander Nylander

The Nylander name is what makes the average hockey fan instantly take notice of Alexander, but his future will be impacted by more than just his DNA.

Nylander was born in Calgary when his father played for the Flames.

The Wings have six picks in the draft: Round 1, 16th overall; round 2, 46th overall; round 4, 107th overall; round 5, 137th overall; round 6, 167th overall; round 7, 197th overall.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun playing against my brother”, an excited Alexander said inside the First Niagara Center.

The Sabres will next pick with the 38th overall pick in the second round. And on the 10-year anniversary, it seems like the most appropriate time to go back to the 2006 draft.

Likewise, if you were hoping that the Buffalo Sabres would strengthen the left side of their blueline by drafting someone like Jakob Chychrun or Mikhail Sergachev, both of whom were still available when Buffalo picked, again, you could be stewing in your juices right now. “There are a lot of really good players in the west and to be the first one is pretty cool”.

Nylander said he wants to play in the National Hockey League next season.

Alex is the son of former NHLer Michael Nylander, and he is the younger brother of Toronto Maple Leafs forward, William Nylander. “My 21 teammates have become my best friends and I will always cherish the moments I had with them”. The 2016 first round marked the most successful in the history of the Steelheads with two players selected, while the Sting extended their first round NHL Draft streak to three years.
