Sabres trade 1st-round pick to Senators for goalie Lehner

The Ottawa Senators traded Robin Lehner and David Legwand’s contract to the Buffalo Sabres for the 21st pick in the draft.

He was 9-12-3 with a. 905 save percentage and 3.02 goals-against average. He has a record of 30-36-13, with a GAA of 2.88 and a save percentage of.914.

The main concern, though, isn’t Lehner’s development – it’s that the now-former Senators backup is reportedly still dealing with concussion issues from a collision with teammate Clarke MacArthur this past winter. “He was the number one goalie available from our estimation”, Murray said.

“Robin was our target”.

Nobody needs to understand this trade except for Tim Murray. He said he’ll no longer quote players since he is “pretty bad at it” and said his words were misconstrued. Sometimes, however, it’s a detriment because loyalty to “my guy” distorts objectivity. “I just said thanks for the work on 21, it’s gone”. “I would have said, ‘There’s no way that’s going to happen.’ “. “There’s always an unhappy player”.

Like Simpson said, the Avalanche might have interest in Jared Cowen since they are looking for a defenseman in a trade.

At 6-foot-5 and 225 pounds, Lehner has the hulking size Murray desires in a goalie.

Legwand is a 17-year NHL veteran, who had nine goals and 18 assists in 80 games last season, his first in Ottawa. He was selected by Nashville with the second overall pick in the 1998 draft (which was held in Buffalo). Compher, 20, was a second-round pick by Buffalo in 2013 and just completed his sophomore season at the University of Michigan, where he had 24 points in 34 games.

Overall I give this trade a B, I don’t like giving up the first round pick but that is the price to pay in order to get a young up and coming goalie.

Canucks GM Jim Benning said the first trade could create a domino effect. On Friday in Bal Harbor, Fla., he said he wouldn’t trade Edmonton’s 16th overall pick for a netminder. I realize they do not have to use all of it, or any of it. But what if Anderson was the goalie traded? And he appeared to be quite proud of that this morning when he spoke to reporters in Sunrise, Florida. I’m not sure if they have enough to get a deal done but if they attempt a deal, it will surely include both first rounders plus Mike Hoffman plus another piece.
