Bush also spoke out about President Barack Obama’s reactions to events in the Middle East, including his failure to stand behind ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

“We need to solve it with a conservative solution”, he said.

During a town hall Republican presidential candidate former Gov. Jeb Bush (R-FL) mocked his opponent front-runner Donald Trump for phoning in TV interviews. It was the fourth night in a row that Bush aides had to find more seats for a larger-than-expected crowd during a packed swing through New Hampshire and SC – two states that Bush is counting on to propel his beleaguered campaign forward.

From the stage, Bush got a few laughs when he addressed opponent Donald Trump’s stand on Common Core.

Bush typically draws between 100 and 200 people at his town halls so staffers had to search for extra seats.

Trump leads the Republican primary, according to a RealClearPolitics average poll, with 34 percent support nationwide.

Trump’s rise and Bush’s underwhelming showings in the Republican debates raised concern among some Bush donors in the fall. He served in Tallahassee from 1999 to 2007, and in those years consistently staked out positions aimed at curbing abortion- something he would do again if elected president, he said.

“I’m an optimist by nature”, said Bush, and he’s trying not to be distracted. Should the Supreme Court overturn the 1973 decision, Bush said states would be empowered to decide the fate of abortion, “which is the proper place for its regulation”.

“No, I don’t think we should let the Chinese deal with it”, said Bush. “There’s a lot that can be done to protect life across the board”, Bush said. “If they have the capability of launching a hydrogen or nuclear bomb to hit the West Coast, I think that’s our responsibility”.

In his interview with AP, Bush dismissed the suggestion that the comment was an acknowledgment that things looked bleak for his campaign.

“He wasn’t afraid to say what he thought and he didn’t duck the issues”, he said.
