The DOH, Hontiveros said should equip the barangay health centers because they are the frontline service providers that can aid the government in monitoring and providing immediate care to those infected with Zika virus especially pregnant women. “We are planning studies in people to find out whether infectious virus persists in the cornea or other compartments of the eye, because that would have implications for corneal transplantation”, said Dr. Rajendra Apte, a senior author of the study.

Culex is 20 times more common than the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which is the main vector of Zika.

According to a Facebook post on Monday by the Health Ministry’s Communicable Disease Control (CDC) Department, Health Ministry spokesman Ly Sovann said: “All people need to understand about the Zika virus”.
