Saffron party takes over Assam
The Assembly Elections 2016 story can be summed up only by Amma’s spectacular performance in Tamil Nadu where AIADMK has trounced the DMK to win a second consecutive term, an unmatched feat since MGR’s days.

Leading comfortably from the river island of Majuli, Sarbananda Sonowal is nearly certain to become BJP’s first Chief Minister of Assam.
“Sincerely grateful to people of Assam for giving us opportunity to work for development of the state”, Sonowal said.
The once-mighty Congress party lost to Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party in Assam, ending its 15-year rule in the northeastern state.
That’s because Kerala has swung back and forth between the Congress-led United Democratic Front and the Left’s Left Democratic Front for two decades now, with little in the way of a third option. One more former Congress Uttarakhand leader Rekha Arya, who voted for BJP during the confidence vote will be joining BJP soon.
Surjewala asserted that it was “impossible” to finish the Congress.
Grabbing power in Assam, one of five states electing new legislatures, is a sign that Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expanding its political influence beyond its traditional heartland. The fact that it has secured more votes than the BJP (alone, not with allies) in Assam or that it has done better than the CPI (M) in West Bengal is no consolation for India’s grand old party.
The BJP is ahead in 55 of the 126 seats while the Congress is leading in 28 seats, the Election Commission said. However, it is for the first time since 1984 that a ruling party has been voted back to power in the state. “The BJP winning in Assam is positive from a sentiment point of view for the markets, but not from a numbers point of view in the Rajya Sabha”.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi dubbed the BJP’s win in Assam as historic and said the saffron party will do everything possible to fulfill the dreams and aspirations of the people. Its alliance candidates led in 65 constituencies, followed by Congress in 28 seats. Now the party doesn’t control the upper house and the victory in Assam alone won’t give it the numbers it needs for a majority.

In Kerala the defeat of corruption and scams ridden Congress led UDF was rather expected but now there is a strong feeling among Congress men that had Oommen Chandy quit CM post and let state Congress chief Sudheeran or Ramesh Chennithala, perhaps UDF would have come back.
