Idris Elba was awarded best supporting actor for his role in “Beasts of No Nation”. His first two were to accept awards for his supporting performance in the Netflix child soldier drama “Beasts of No Nation” and for his lead performance in the BBC miniseries “Luther”.

Queen Latifah won the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries (Bessie).
Netflix’s “Orange is the New Black”, about women’s lives behind bars, won the SAG award for best ensemble in a comedy series and also saw Uzo Aduba honoured as best comedy series actress.
Diversity regarding sexuality also was acknowledged in addition to Latifah’s, Davis’ and Aduba’s wins for portraying characters within the LGBT spectrum.
“Look at this stage”, said Orange Is the New Black star Laura Prepon, motioning to the show’s diverse cast while accepting the TV comedy series award.
Leonardo DiCaprio trumped British hopeful Eddie Redmayne for the outstanding performance by a male actor in leading role award for his performance as a fur trapper in revenge epic The Revenant.
Amid continuing uproar over diversity in Academy Award nominees, the SAG Awards offered a stark antidote to the rancor that has characterized Hollywood’s awards season. This is what we talk about when we talk about diversity: “different race, colour, creed, sexual orientation”, Prepon said. Diversity is universal and it’s more than we’re focusing on.
Brie Larson continued her winning streak by taking home the prize for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for “Room”, ahead of fellow nominees Cate Blanchett, Helen Mirren, Saoirse Ronan and Sarah Silverman.
Alicia Vikander won the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role (The Danish Girl).
SAG winners for individual performances the last three years have corresponded with eventual Academy Award winners.
“I’m from California, so lack of sunlight, you really feel a difference”, she said. “So regardless what is going on with the academy, what is going on with Hollywood, they will find a way to be excellent”.
“Actually, between our show and Transparent, there’s an unprecedented number of trans actors nominated for SAG awards this year”.
She included: “And viewing your motion pictures… made me feel less alone and made me feel like that was a protected spot to investigate my imagination”.
One of the evening’s most moving moments came when Tina Fey and Amy Poehler presented Carol Burnett with SAG’s Life Achievement honour.

“I sense that I was conceived addressing everything about reality, feeling lost and alone and constantly stressed that I was profoundly unlovable”, said Larson, tolerating her honor. Kevin Spacey won his second SAG Award for “House of Cards”. Onstage she recalled her career, including the moment when a network executive told her that “comedy variety is a man’s game”.
