Given that the SAG Award nominations are decided upon by the SAG-AFTRA (essentially, a pool of working actors-about 2,200 people selected at random who are only allowed to serve every eight years), chances are a little higher that the voting group is going to be a much better representation of those people now working in Hollywood. Thus, his two SAG wins are definitely a huge accomplishment, giving him an appropriate nod of success. He’d already accepted statues for his best supporting actor role in the Netflix dramatic film “Beasts of No Nation”, and his lead actor role in the BBC miniseries “Luther“.

As the row over the lack of diversity in the Oscar nominations rumbles on, black actors took top honours at the 22nd Screen Actors Guild Awards on Saturday night. During his acceptance speech, Elba said, “Welcome to diverse TV …” She’s very entitled and she has a lot of money. Queen Latifah also won for her work as Bessie in “Orange is the New Black“.

“We’ve become a society of trending topics”, Davis told reporters backstage after her win, addressing the #OscarsSoWhite controversy.

Jeffrey Tambor won best comedy series actor for playing Maura Pfefferman, an aging wealthy transgender woman in Amazon’s “Transparent“.

Even if this year’s winners represent only two races, the SAG award ceremony certainly constitutes a victory for affirmative action and the triumph of politics over art, if not for diversity.
