Sagna hands Guardiola fitness boost ahead of Manchester derby

Manchester City have been handed a major boost ahead of the derby against Manchester United with the news that captain Vincent Kompany is on course to return alongside four fellow injury victims for the crunch fixture. I had to rest a bit because I had a little tear on one of my hamstrings. I had a long summer, a long season previous year so I need to take care of my body.

Iheanacho has made two substitute appearances for City this season and he looks to play a part in Saturday’s game with Sergio Aguero suspended. The skipper was joined by summer signings Leroy Sane and Ilkay Gundogan as well as full-back Bacary Sagna in completing full training with the first team following the worldwide break.

New goalkeeper Claudio Bravo could also make his City bow following his move from Barcelona last month.

Sagna believes City have the experience to take control of the match.

He said: “I would say it is one big test from many we are going to have this season”.

“We’re going to try to dictate the game”.

With Sergio Aguero suspended after picking up a three-match ban for an elbow on West Ham defender Winston Reid, Iheanacho is set to lead the line at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

Iheanacho scored 14 goals in all competitions for City last term and finished last season with the best goals-to-minute ratio in the Premier League.

Iheanacho, who scored the victor for Nigeria against Tanzania last weekend, says he is ready to step in, if handed the chance by Pep Guardiola. He is a great player, everyone knows his quality, but we have many other players who are expecting to give the maximum. I am pleased for them. “If I get picked I’m going to do my job”.
