Saints’ Brees can’t find answer to revamped Giants defence
Brees was officially on record with 61,434 passing yards by halftime, besting Marino in this stat. “I didn’t accept it very well”, Harper said, crediting Panthers coach Ron Rivera for doing “a great job keeping everybody together”. The Saints only had the ball for 59 plays and just under 26 minutes in time of possession, gaining 288 yards.

The Giants are 2-0 for the first time since 2009.
After watching the Giants grind through another week, make all the right plays and all the right decisions for a second straight game in taming the Saints 16-13 in front of 77,727 at MetLife Stadium, it’s nearly impossible not to wonder how good this team can really be.
Next Week: The Saints entertain the Atlanta Falcons on MNF while the Giants will host the Washington Redskins.
“As long as we continue to understand what each other’s best roles are and what our best attributes are, and continue to do them”, said Cruz, who had four catches for 91 yards, with his longest of 40 yards, ending in a lost fumble, ” I think the sky is the limit for us”.
He’s now only behind Brett Favre and Peyton Manning on the list but at age 37, it seems unlikely he’ll be able to make up the 10,000 or so additional yards he needs to take first place from Manning.
On the play, Beckham appeared to put his hand in Moore’s face and some observers believed the call should have gone against Beckham.
I know, it’s only two games. Williams remained in NY after the injury. “But as spring went on, I started working with guys like (Rodgers-Cromartie) and Eli Apple and the linebackers, and we realized that we could have something special”.
Saints cornerback P.J. Williams took a knee to the helmet while trying to tackle Giants tight end Larry Donnell following a six-yard pass. Saints teammate Craig Robertson also kneed Williams in the back of the head in the same collision.
Here’s what safety Roman Harper said about that play, and how the Saints can move forward after an 0-2 start.
Delvin Breaux, who is already on the sidelines with an injury, felt for his brother in the secondary.
That was the first return of a blocked field goal for a touchdown since Kevin Dockery went 71 yards for the score against the Eagles on December 7, 2008. “I just have to catch one ball and I calm down and all the jitters are pretty much gone”. They have lost two games by a total of four points. Sterling Shepard sparks the Giants offense with eight catches for 117 yards.
Holding the Saints to 13 points is a pretty good feat no matter the situation.
The Giants limited the Saints to only 13 points, 41 yards rushing (3.2 ypc) and held Drew Brees to under 265 yards and only one touchdown. Last year, these two teams nearly broke the scoreboard.
NY also made the Saints one-dimensional, limiting their running game to 41 yards on 13 carries. That pass play, it turns out, was the longest play the Giants’ defense has allowed this season.
So if you go by what the Giants did defensively against the Cowboys rush, and you factor in the Saints, it’s safe to say that it’s going to be hard for New Orleans to gain yards on the ground.
New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees (9) is forced to the ground by New York Giants’ Owa Odighizuwa (58) and Jason Pierre-Paul (90) after being tripped up by Leon Hall (25) for a sack during the first half of an NFL football game Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016, in East Rutherford, N.J. Soon after Jenkins’ touchdown, the Saints faced a third-and-nine at their own 26. But Odell Beckham, Jr. couldn’t haul in Manning’s pass, and neither team would put any points on the board until a critical moment with 2:30 left in the first half.
Folks, the Saints are going to have trouble this week.

A short, 8-yard pass to Coby Fleener midway through the second quarter of New Orleans Saints-New York Giants didn’t have much of an impact on the game, but it marked a milestone in National Football League history. Most likely Beckham, Shepard or Cruz is going to come down with the pass or at the very least break it up, which is exactly what happened on the play directly after Beckham’s drop.
