Saints deal blow to Bucs’ playoff hopes
New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees passed former Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino in career passing touchdowns in Sunday’s Week 14 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Winston missed a few passes early in the game but helped the team rally in the second half and never put the defense in a bad situation.

Meanwhile, the defense limited Tampa Bay to 18 first downs and a season-low 291 total yards, while limiting the Bucs to 4-of-11 on third down.
And while New Orleans’ injury-depleted defence ranks at the bottom of the league statistically and is on pace to set a record for TD passes allowed in a season, the Brees-led offence is averaging over 300 yards per game through the air. The Saints are also 3-1 against the spread inside the division this year. We were able to get the touchback and felt like we were able to play a good portion of the first half on their end of the field. Top cornerback Keenan Lewis (hip) recently went on injured reserve.
I said on Thursday all I wanted from the final month of the 2015 Saints season is 3 plus hours of entertainment each week.
“We’ve been banged up throughout the entire season”.
But Bucs offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter says it’s really a simple equation if you do the math. “It’s kind of tough to build that chemistry, to build all that stuff that you need to be an elite secondary”.
“I think that just happens, and that’s just the answer we’re going to give”, coach Lovie Smith said. “One of the most dependable, most reliable people I’ve ever played with, and I consider myself lucky to have had so far these 10 years with him”, Brees said.
“First off, you know that it’s coming up, so you have to make some plans before”, Smith said. “Now everybody is in this stretch-run”. The Saints were the projected 13th seed after Sunday’s game. On third-and-10, Winston threw a ideal pass to rookie WR Donteea Dye that would have moved the sticks but Dye couldn’t quite hold on.
The loss virtually knocks the Bucs out of the playoff race, though mathematically they still have a slim chance with three games remaining.
The Bucs enter play with a 6-6 record and have won three of their last four games, but they seemed overpriced in this spot. “He’s a reason why they are winning”.
“Absolutely”, Winston said, via ESPN.com.
A challenging stretch run continues Sunday against struggling NFC South rival New Orleans, which, despite a four-game losing streak, has an offence capable of giving any opponent fits.
“We’re obviously down”, Vaccaro said.

“We’ve had some disappointments this year. It’s a pride thing”.
