Saints offense shines in win over Jaguars
With speculation rampant about whether the organization will keep head coach Sean Payton and/or quarterback Drew Brees, the duo reminded everybody what they are capable of after Sunday’s 38-27 home finale victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

On Sunday, Hightower carried 27 times for 122 yards and two touchdowns.
The Saints will close out the regular season Sunday with a road contest against division-rival Atlanta.
Plantar fasciitis feels like daggers under your foot, but Drew Brees dropped back and soldiered through the pain to put on a gutsy performance. His right arm was fine. “I’m just thankful that things worked out where I was able to come back”.
Brandin Cooks continued his huge year, scoring on a 71 yard TD reception and picking up 123 yards on 5 catches.
Brees did not practice until Friday, and there was a question even a few hours before kickoff about whether or not he would play.
“A guy like that, man, if he can walk, he’s going to play”, Cooks said. He’d return to that game shortly after having exited, as the training staff just taped the injury twice and then sent him back out. “That’s what I told my O-line before the game, and they gave me everything they had”. “I need to see what it feels like getting out there, just executing plays”, Brees said.
The Saints (6-9) much maligned defense had its stretch of play this season during the first half.
New Orleans picked up 537 net yards against the Jaguars.
After a holding penalty negated a 25-yard run by Gray, Allen Robinson showed why he is the first alternate for the Pro Bowl as he got behind the Saints defense and took it to the house for a 90-yard touchdown pass, longest of his career. Brandon Coleman was a big part of the offense’s efficiency with four catches for 45 yards, including two big ones on third down. But it wasn’t enough to overcome an early 24-0 deficit.
“The effort, the toughness and all of the grit – it’s there”, Bradley said.
“The only thing you could really draw a parallel to or compare it to is when you have one of your senses taken away from you”.
Jacksonville gets one last shot at playing better defense Sunday at Houston (8-7).
Brees was injured in the first half of Monday night’s 35-27 loss against the Detroit Lions. We’ve grown up. We know what to expect. It was the most yards that the Jaguars have allowed under head coach Gus Bradley. His 31 touchdown passes this season extended his National Football League record of throwing at least 30 TD passes in eight consecutive seasons. I predict the Saints will give Brees an extension that both gives Brees the money he wants and gives the Saints more cap room than we think is possible. How? “We’re continuing to build what is going to be a great team for years to come”.

Bortles, meanwhile, reached 300 yards passing for the sixth time this season, tying Mark Brunell for the most such outings in a single season by a Jaguars QB. Cooks would surpass a 1,000 yards receiving becoming the first Saints receiver to accomplish that feat since 2012. Jacksonville also has a 5-9 record for the year, with some hope moving forward thanks to the rise of QB Blake Bortles.
