Saints QB Drew Brees sustains torn plantar fascia, season in doubt
Defensive tackle Tyrunn Walker joined the Lions for Monday’s game against the Saints, one of the few times he’s been with his teammates since suffering a season-ending injury in Week 4.

It’s the second time this season Brees has dealt with an injury.
But until the Saints hear Payton or Brees rule their franchise quarterback, they’re operating on the assumption that No. 9 will take the field in the home finale against Jacksonville.
Brees injured his foot in the second quarter of a loss to the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football. With Quin in the game, Brees completed 12-of-20 passes for 82 yards and no touchdowns. “That would be with two weeks left to go in the season where we are at now”. It was the 10th consecutive year he has reached that number – extending his own league mark.
New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton works the sideline in the first half of an NFL football game against the Detroit Lions in New Orleans, Monday, Dec. 21, 2015. “Detroit came out and played well early, and it ended up being the difference”. Strong performances from Drew Brees and Matthew Stafford against below-average defenses seemed to be a given, but it was actually one team’s inability to get into the end zone that proved to be a deciding factor.
Let’s check out some of the notable players and stats from the game so we can determine why things played out the way they did.
The Saints asserted that Kelemete reported on the play before he was flagged and should not have had to report again. The only penalty is when they freeze a kicker. Only, the Lions had already used all three of their timeouts. “The play should have kept going”.
It’s a short week for the Black and Gold and the second injury of the season for Brees. Yet, he was sacked just once en route to a 103.1 passer rating.
Cooks caught 10 passes for 124 yards in the game, both career highs. While he didn’t get the nod, Robinson was worthy of a Pro Bowl berth with 69 receptions for 1,141 yards with a 16.5 average and 13 TDs.
Since the Lions’ bye week, which also coincided with Jim Bob Cooter being able to install more of his offense as the newly named offensive coordinator, Stafford is completing better than 68 percent of his passes with 14 touchdowns and just two interceptions. Nine different receivers caught at least one pass. Tate was his main target with six receptions and two touchdowns, but he only totaled 45 yards.
“He was a sharpshooter today”, wide receiver Calvin Johnson said.
Yet, when Detroit looked ripe to self-destruct, the Lions put together a scoring drive that included Abdullah’s 27-yard run and Joique Bell’s short rushing touchdown.
Detroit led 28-3 when Abdullah scored on a 15-yard run around the left end in the third quarter.
Colston’s score was set up by Abdullah’s fumble, which linebacker Hau’oli Kikaha forced and recovered at the Detroit 38.
“So, I see myself coaching this team long past this season”. Kyle Forbath would knock in a 45-yard field goal to make it 7-3 after one. Meanwhile, Lance Moore also had one catch, which gained 10 yards. I know Saints fans paid a lot of money to be there, and the team should try to win every game, blah de blah.

Brees played much of the game with the injury, but never missed a snap.
