Saints’ slow start dooms them in loss to Lions
‘So for those of you who said I’m not going because of the season we have had.

According to ESPN’s Ed Werder, Brees suffered a torn plantar fascia in his foot in the Saints 35-27 loss to Detroit Monday night. The Saints trailed 28-3 at one point but almost completed a comeback, eventually losing 35-27 after Brees completed 34-of-52 passes for 341 yards and three touchdowns.
“I know he’s had it looked at, he’s got an MRI”, Payton said.
“I feel like we are playing good complementary football, ” Stafford said. The latter has missed the past five games with the injury.
Flynn played in seven games for Green Bay last season, completing 8-of-16 passes for 66 yards and an interception. However, McCown is on injured reserve; he had back surgery and was ruled out for the rest of the season on November 11.
-Lions head coach Jim Caldwell had some harsh words about the officiating Monday after one of his two challenges was not reversed despite Saints tight end Benjamin Watson appearing to have a foot out of bounds as he made a fourth-down catch in the fourth quarter.
The No. 3 quarterback has been rookie Garrett Grayson, New Orleans’ third-round pick (No. 75 overall) this year. “We’re kind of taking it day by day”, Payton stated. Brees was unable to manufacture enough offense to get over the inept play of a young and woeful defense.
The entire league knows what veteran backup quarterback Matt Flynn can do. But, unlike Manning, Brees does not expect to miss any time.
“I see myself coaching this team long past this season”, he said, pointing out there have been lots of rumors in the past about him leaving the Saints and he’s still there.
It’s the second time this season Brees has dealt with an injury. “When my number’s called in the pass game, I’ve got to make a play”.
Brees had his NFL-record 10th consecutive season of 4,000+ yards this year and crossed over the 60,000-yard mark for all-time passing yards.
Levels of complication notwithstanding, Caldwell had high compliments for his quarterback, who started out the season on pace to have the worst year of his career, interceptions-wise.
Payton said Wednesday that he won’t be able to answer questions about Brees’ ability to play this Sunday until the team hears back from Dr. Anderson. “But whenever there is an injury, I think you spend a little bit more time looking at him, his strengths and weaknesses, what he does and how he operates”.
There’s no reason to risk any further injury, not with the Saints having nothing left to play for (save a better draft position).

Let’s check out some of the notable players and stats from the game so we can determine why things played out the way they did. With two games left on the schedule, Browner will can put the record out of reach and add another Saints entry into the record books in the “stats you don’t want for your team” category.
