Saints strike fast in overtime to defeat the Cowboys, 26-20
After failing to finish off the Dallas Cowboys in regulation, the New Orleans Saints needed overtime to record their first win of the season.

Through 4 games, Peters has come through with seven pass deflections and two interceptions. Brees had a passer rating of 119.4.
Terrance Williams, who bailed the Cowboys out of regulation with an incredible diving catch in the end zone on fourth down with 1:51 left, was targeted 10 times by Weeden.
On top of that, linebacker Sean Lee, one of Dallas’ best defensive players, left in the first half with a concussion.
“The first half, a lot of it was the pressure”, Payton said. “As a result, there were a few throwaways… some balls that didn’t get down the field”. They struggled getting aligned, and (Brees) was smart enough to snap it quickly.
“I just tried to keep the safety in the middle of the field and get CJ the ball and let him do the rest”, Brees said. “So it will be good to build off of that”.

Most of his completions were short throws, including the sideline floater that running back C.J.
Spiller still didn’t get many touches.
Drew Brees joined Peyton Manning (535), Brett Favre (508), Dan Marina (420) and Tom Brady (402) as the fifth QB to ever reach 400 touchdowns.
With both the Cowboys and Saints hobbling, Sunday night’s matchup in the Super Dome wasn’t exactly one for the ages, but there was still plenty of drama late.
New Orleans Saints Coach Sean Payton was cold-sober serious when he said he would get C.J.
It’s not known when Evans, who was replaced in the starting lineup the last two weeks by former practice squad player Senio Kelemete, will return. “It’s different (in the game), you’re taking hits and working more off reaction but it was all good“.
Brees said he had an idea it could be a big play when he saw the Cowboys defense line up. He added another first-down catch to pick up a first down on the Saints’ touchdown-scoring drive in the fourth quarter. One problem was protection as he was sacked twice. “I was just making sure that I was keeping my legs loose, and also encouraging (fellow running backs) Mark (Ingram) and Khiry (Robinson) and the other guys”.
Brees appeared to cap off his performance by setting up what should have been an easy game-winning kick for Zack Hocker. They gained 69 yards rushing in the first quarter and also capitalized on several defensive mistakes by the Saints in their second TD drive. Running backs Darren McFadden and Joseph Randle didn’t do him any favors, rushing for an average of 2.7 yards on 21 carries in defeat.
Brees completed 32 of 39 passes for 279 yards and two touchdowns.

-LB Anthony Hitchens led the Cowboys with 11 total tackles, including a half-sack and one quarterback hurry. Which is just fine for the Saints, who remain a substantial work in progress even after these Brees-led heroics.
