The Patriots are headed to West Virginia on Tuesday for joint practices with the Saints on Wednesday and Thursday.

Payton spoke to the media on Sunday and said he has a lot of respect for the Patriots, and he’s looking forward to having his team work with them this week. It’s a big trip for us, both for our team, but we also have to try to keep staying ahead of the things that’ll be coming up pretty quickly. “I think he is very good at identifying what they are looking for”. But I would say by and large, it would be similar to the drills you’ve seen – there’ll be a 7-on-7 period, there’ll be a team period, there’ll be a lot of special team periods, some situational periods.

Entering their first season under Head Coach Alvin Gentry, the Pelicans most recently held training camp at the team’s practice facility in New Orleans.

For the players, the joint practices present an opportunity to face a higher level of competition.

“We’re just out here improving”, Solder said. It offers a nice change from playing against your own defense or offense, and while the two teams won’t be trying to gain any kind of edge against each other, it’s still going head-to-head against the competition. We’ve had a good working relationship with the Saints and with Sean, his staff and the entire organization, and we just want to get better, they want to get better, and we want to work with each other so that we can both do that.

New England held a full-pads practice in grueling 90-degree temperatures Monday, and it came at a cost. Rookie offensive lineman Tre’ Jackson suffered an undisclosed injury and was carted off the field.

“Its not that bad, ” Brown said about the muggy conditions. “I just think (the long sleeves) gives you a little extra sweat, something I’ve been doing since my first start in the league”. There has been a ton of things just when you watch what they have put together over the years.

NOTES: Gronkowski, swamped by reports after practice, joked that he cant wait until Tom Brady, now in a legal battle with the NFL over the deflated football issue, starts talking again. Both practices run from 9:30 am to 12 pm ET and are open to the public.

“It was awesome being back today”.
