The Indian now needs to down his Serbian opponent, who is placed 57 places below him at 200 in the ATP rankings.

Ranked 143 in the world, Saketh defeated Albano Olivetti of France and USA’s Mitchell Krueger in the first two rounds of qualifying and followed it up with an easy victory over Krstin, which took only 56 minutes.

Indian tennis player Saketh Myneni achieved a milestone as he entered the main draw of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career.

Saketh, ranked 143rd in the world by the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals), is only the third Indian male tennis player in recent years to make it to the main draw of a tennis Grand Slam in a singles event. On Friday he won 6-3 6-0 in the final Qualifying round.

His earlier attempts at qualifying for Slams this year ended in disappointment with Saketh bowing out in the third round of the Australian Open, the second round of the French Open and the first round at the Wimbledon Championships.

They had met once before at the Eskisehir Challenger on hardcourts past year where the Indian had lost in straight sets. Myneni capitalized on the situation to blitz through the second set.
