The day began with news that the Cubs had completed a trade for New York Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman, but the White Sox came up with a dramatic victor.

One day after a blockbuster trade, star closer Aroldis Chapman is expected to join the major league-leading Chicago Cubs for their game at the crosstown White Sox.

“It was a lot of fun, a lot of energy there and it felt really good to get that done for the guys”, Saladino said. Shuck advanced on Dioner Navarro’s sacrifice and Saladino followed with a bouncer into center field. On Sunday, the White Sox and Tigers played two, sort of.

“We’ve been all over the place”, manager Robin Ventura said.

Added Ventura: “We’ve been all over the plate, but these guys are resilient”. They fight back, they come every day to play hard. “You need some stuff to go your way and I think tonight was one of those”.

With three RBI in yesterday’s win over the Brewers, Anthony Rizzo has 75 for the season – one shy of Nolan Arenado’s National League lead (76). They had runners on first and second with two out when Jennings struck out Jason Heyward to escape the threat.

Javier Baez hit a two-run home run for the Cubs, who were coming off a nice weekend series in Milwaukee.

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jake Arrieta, left, returns to the mound after giving up a three-run home run to Chicago White Sox’s Todd Frazier, right, also scoring Melky Cabrera and Jose Abreu, during the sixth inning of a baseball game Monday, July 25, 2016, in Chicago.

“I’m revoking Melky Cabrera’s membership at my wife’s gym in Tampa”, Maddon said.

Pineda (5-9) pitched seven strong innings to beat Yankees nemesis Dallas Keuchel (6-10), last year’s AL Cy Young Award victor.

The White Sox’s defense aided Gonzalez in keeping the Cubs off the board. Meanwhile, the White Sox just suspended their best pitcher because he threw a temper tantrum and cut up a jersey.

Miami outfielder Ichiro Suzuki grounded out in his only at-bat – a pinch-hit appearance in the eighth – to remain at 2,996 career hits. Tillman has won four straight starts, all behind seven innings of one-run ball.

The Orioles moved 2-1/2 games ahead of Boston, which was beaten at home by Detroit, while the other big fish in the division, the New York Yankees, won a tight game at Houston. It took a different route, landing 410 feet away over the center-field wall after Frazier tagged a Jake Arrieta pitch for a three-run home run and a 4-0 lead. Pineda (5-9) pitched seven strong innings to beat Dallas Keuchel (Razorbacks).
