Sale gets 16th win as White Sox top Royals 7-4

Chris Sale picked up his 16th victory with a complete game and Carlos Sanchez homered for the first time in almost a year as the Chicago White Sox beat the reeling Kansas City Royals 7-4 on Friday night.Sanchez hit a three-run homer – his first in 141 at-bats since September 21, 2015 – in a four-run eighth inning to rally Chicago.Sale (16-8) struck out 10, walked one and held Kansas City to four runs (three earned) and eight hits for his big league leading eighth complete-game, throwing 119 pitches.Kelvin Herrera (2-5) took the loss, giving up the homer to Sanchez.The Royals have lost five straight to begin their eight-game homestand.Kansas City seized a 4-2 lead in the sixth inning with Whit Merrifield’s triple scoring Billy Burns with the first run.

The Royals wrap up their series with the White Sox on Monday at 1:15 p.m., before hosting Cleveland on Tuesday. Offensively, Jose Abreu leads Chicago with 173 hits, Adam Eaton has 55 RBI and Melky Cabrera has 11 home runs.

Jason Vargas, pitching for the first time since July 21 of past year, battled back after a shaky first inning.

Royals: LHP Danny Duffy is 0-1 with three no-decisions since an August 21 victory over Minnesota.

BRAVES 6, NATIONALS 2: Adonis Garcia drove in three runs, Matt Wisler pitched five-plus innings and the Atlanta Braves beat the Washington Nationals 6-2 in a rain-shortened game.

Sale had a ideal game going through four innings before the Royals put up two runs on the southpaw in the fifth and sixth innings. Dillon Gee (7-8) replaced Vargas and held the White Sox to one run and five hits over 4 1/3 innings.

“Sanchez has been up and down this year and there have been times when he hasn’t clicked”, White Sox manager Robin Ventura said.

They both came way too late for the Kansas City Royals to avoid an embarrassing sweep. He just wasn’t locating the way he usually does.

“It was a bad day for me”. He was throwing it pretty good. “So, you never know if you’re going to win those because it’s vague”. The mistake allowed Tim Anderson to reach second base safely and prevented the Royals from recording an out at first. After the review, the call on the field was overturned with Orlando ruled safe and the slide was legal. “Again, that stuff is written in a way that it could go either way”.
