Sale Loses in White Sox Return, Chapman Saves Cubs’ 3-1 Win

WHITE SOX: The White Sox are 4-0 in Sale’s last four starts verus National League Central opponents, are 5-0 in his last five starts versus a team with a winning record, and are 8-1 in his last nine interleague starts. The White Sox dropped to 50-52 as they head to Minneapolis for a three-game series against the Minnesota Twins. Lackey did allow a homer to Melky Cabrera in that game. “Players always have their teammates’ backs, and that’s no different with our clubhouse”.

The Rays were swept in a three-game series at Chavez Ravine in 2013, the only other time they’ve visited the Dodgers’ hallowed home turf.

“I know the crowd’s going to be a little insane”, Frazier said. “I believe when that occurs I’m going understand what he’s about and what he’s thinking”. Though a few wisecracks were made, the scene was relatively tame.

Sale raved about support he’s received from teammates who he feels he let down by not taking the ball on his scheduled day to pitch.

“We beat a good pitcher”, Fowler said of Sale.

Asked if he thought Sale would apologize, Frazier said: “That’s a good question”. I think he’s a guy of his word. He just wants to play. “The way the game kind of turned, that kind of took a bad turn for us”.

The Chicago White Sox look to shake off a tough loss on the road against Cubs last night as they head to Minnesota to face off against the Twins. No out was bigger than the last of the sixth inning as Lackey induced a pop up on the infield from Jose Abreu with the go-ahead run at first. Hector Rondon pitched a ideal eighth, and Chapman pitched a 1-2-3 ninth – striking out Jose Abreu and Avisail Garcia – while hitting speeds of 103 miles per hour.

New teammate Jason Heyward called Chapman an unbelievable talent saying that it was not only his fastball of 100 miles per hour and higher, but he now is able to control every pitch he has and has the confidence to throw other pitches.

The effort was enough to outdo Sale, who was hurt by walks in the first and third innings.

With the Cubs’ first RBI of the game, Kris Bryant found what he’s been searching for of late: a screaming double to the vines in right center off a Chris Sale changeup, of all things.

RANGERS 3, ROYALS 2 – Mitch Moreland’s second home run of the game broke a tie in the eighth inning and Cole Hamels earned his 12th win of the season as the Texas Rangers beat the Kansas City Royals. He’ll take on the Cub’s John Lackey in an 8:05 PM EDT start at Wrigley Field.

MARLINS 11, PHILLIES 1: Giancarlo Stanton hit a two-run homer in the first inning to lead a 16-hit attack in Miami’s victory over Philadelphia. With two outs, Robin Ventura intentionally walked Matt Szczur to put two men on. Pitchers like Sale, however, are tough to find, and he could be under team control through 2019 if the White Sox pick up his “18 and ’19 club options”.

“He’s a great kid”. “This doesn’t change that”. I know I’ve done some stuff that I wouldn’t want people to know. “We only got 103”, Hammel joked.
