Two days earlier, a women said she saw a middle-aged man with white facial makeup and flaming red hair standing silently outside a laundromat. The reports figure as the latest in a string of similar disturbing clown sightings in recent weeks that happened in SC.

Winston-Salem Police says officers will increase patrols in the area around 1200 East 29th Street.

All of the sightings here, in OH and in SC are near apartment complexes that provide housing for lower income tenants and all of the sightings involve attempts to both lure potential victims and engaging in menacing behavior. From Batman’s arch-villain, The Joker, real-life’s John Wayne Gacey, to musician/filmmaker Rob Zombie’s entire career, the image of the Killer Clown has managed to be a ever present, post-modern boogieman for generations raised on TV, the internet, and the Big Mac.

Police in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, said that one clown was seen trying to lure children into the forest with treats, and another was seen in a separate wooded areas nearby on Sunday night. What began as sightings of clowns in the woods began to escalate as the clowns are grew more bold.

Over the past two weeks, residents have told authorities they have spotted clowns, or people who looked like clowns, on at least eight occasions. Police fielded two reports of clown sightings on Thursday from an apartment complex in town. This vehicle was described as a “dark colored Honda”. Police say again they found no evidence of a clown.

In addition to the Carolina incidents, a 14-year-old in OH said he was chased by a knife-wielding man in a clown mask while he was on his way to school last Tuesday.
