Sales Soar for Late Singer Prince as His Music Tops Billboard Charts
The company owns the name Prince and all related music marketed under Prince. About 100,000 of those copies is for the physical release, reports Billboard.

Prince also has a third album in the top ten, with his triple album The Hits/The Big-Sides coming in at #6 with 41,000 units (up 8,203%), with 24,000 in pure album sales (up 10,351%). It generated an equivalent of 69,000 sales.
“I wrote “Stand Back” riding along in the vehicle, the first time I heard “Little Red Corvette.’ I had these words in my head, and I just started singing these words with a friend of mine”. He was found at his Paisley Park estate near Minneapolis.
The 17-song greatest hits album, “The Very Best of Prince”, led the pack, with more than 250,000 sales in the three days after his death. “During the weekend, another 399,000 albums were sold”, per CNN Music.
An all-Prince top five? Its expansion to 212 theaters means it will be playing on over half of AMC’s total USA cinemas, so find a theater near you and sing along to “Purple Rain”, “Let’s Go Crazy”, and more! The latest comes from longtime fan Jessie J, who performed a dutiful rendition of what is arguably Prince’s most recognizable song, “Purple Rain”.
The top new album on the chart was country singer Sturgill Simpson’s Sailor’s Guide to Earth, which debuted at number three.
Though Prince is an exceptional case, access-wise, posthumous album sales spikes are fairly common among well-loved musicians. If Prince maintains this form, The Very Best Of would be Prince’s sixth Number 1 album in the UK.

The resurgence of Prince’s works on isn’t surprising following the music icon’s death last week and the ARIA charts this week are no different, with both his albums and singles dominating the lists. Released in 1984, it instantly became a cult classic thanks in large part to Prince’s music featured in the movie. It should be noted that Prince was famously against having his music appear on streaming services (except, in the past year, TIDAL), or on the Internet in general. He told Ebony magazine that “situations where we finally get into a position to run things-we all should help”.
