Rohtak: Yesterday, Bollywood megastar Salman Khan was sentenced to 5 years in prison in a blackbuck poaching case by the Jodhpur trial court.
Meanwhile, the Jodhpur court reserved its order on Salman’s bail plea till Saturday.
Despite warnings Salman Khan’s lawyer reached the Jodhpur sessions court on Friday morning with his 51-page bail application. His case at the sessions court was represented by senior advocate Mahesh Bora. Salman was later acquitted in the case as the ruling was overturned by the Bombay High Court. This case is regarding the poaching of two blackbucks near Kakandi village on the intervening night of October 1 and October 2, 1998.
The four other co-accused – actors Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Sonali Bendre and Neelam – have been acquitted.
Joshi ordered that the entire file relating to the case be placed before him and adjourned the hearing till tomorrow (Saturday). As writes the Guardian, the former girlfriend of Han actress Aishwarya Rai in 2002 accused him of verbal and physical violence.
In a statement issued later in the day, the actor’s lawyer, Anand Desai, said: “We respect the decision of the Hon’ble Court”.
Actor Rani Mukherji extended her support to Khan saying, “I always say this, my love will always be with him”. Khan was convicted under Sections 9 and 51 of the Wildlife Protection Act, under which the maximum punishment is six years imprisonment.
