As of Friday night, CTV News Winnipeg was reporting PHAC said, “At this time, no source has been identified and the investigation is ongoing”.

Salmonella is a bacteria found in the intestines of animals.

Those foods can include poultry, beef, milk and eggs, but fruits, vegetables and herbs can also be contaminated with the bug. “Individuals became sick between June 12 and September 20, 2015”, said the agency. “Illness can be avoided if safe food handling, preparation, and cooking practices are closely followed”.

Hart says on average they see roughly 44 cases of salmonella poisoning every year.

A public health notice was issued to Canadians as no source has been identified as the cause of the outbreak. In healthy people, salmonellosis often clears up without treatment.

Eight people have been hospitalized, but no one has died. No deaths were reported.
