Salomon Rondon joins West Brom: £12m signing arrives hours before Manchester

“I don’t think defending comes from just one player“.

While many saluted the club hierarchy for getting such a large amount of money for the 20-year-old’s services, others suggested it was symbolic of the suggestion that Liverpool can not keep hold of their best players – noting Luis Suarez’s departure last summer, having previously sold Xabi Alonso, Fernando Torres and Javier Mascherano.

“I am very happy to be here”, Rondon said.

“In January it was a very good season because we were top of the table and were qualified from a hard group in the Champions League“.

“I trust a lot in him, he said.

“I am not talking about Pep Guardiola, he is a manager that every team will want to manage because he is a great manager”, said Pellegrini.

Baggies fans will be hoping he can reproduce his impressive strike-rate for his new side, who begin their Premier League campaign tonight against Manchester City. Sterling was widely pilloried for the manner in which he departed Anfield and City were criticised for spending so extravagantly on a relatively untested 20-year-old prospect. It’s important to have a good difference with [Chelsea] at the beginning of the season because it’s one of the five teams that has more chances to win the title.

£49m summer signing Raheem Sterling is expected to make his competitive debut for Manchester City today and it will be exciting to see how he gets on next to David Silva and with Sergio Aguero ahead of him. He was very unlucky last season because he started with the African Nations Cup and after that he had an injury for about a month and a half. “That s always been my philosophy – to squeeze everything I can about the team I have”.

The England midfielder has now been ruled out of Monday’s Barclays Premier League opener at West Brom and the following week’s clash with Chelsea.

West Brom meanwhile will also go into the season with plenty of optimism, with Tony Pulis at the helm.
