RIO DE JANEIRO – With three gold medals won and the possibility of two more to come, Simone Biles finally is impressed with herself. That ties her with teammate Aly Raisman for the most gold medals won by a USA women’s gymnast, and it’s the most ever for an American female gymnast in a single Olympics.

As we continue to watch the success of the Final Five, as you see Simone stand up on that gold medal platform yet again, remember that the gold medal was not won on the day of competition.

USA gymnast Simone Biles added to her trove of gold medals at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games on Sunday, winning her third in the vault. After scoring a 15.800 on her first attempt, Biles had one of her best performances of the Olympics with a 16.033 on her second vault. She recorded the highest score of the event (16.033) on that move, which consists of jumping onto the springboard and doing a half twist before launching off the vault to a flip with 1 1/2 twists.

“It was good, I feel very excited because having gone to worlds and having two silvers and a bronze it means a lot to me It’s something that I wanted so badly”, she said.

Biles does not perform the Produnova; instead, she opts for the Amanar, which carries a difficulty score of 6.3, and she often lands it perfectly.

Simone Biles and Aly Raisman’s friendship has been put on a podium in more ways than one this week. Biles competes Tuesday on balance beam and Wednesday on floor exercise.

Russia’s Aliya Mustafina ended the US women’s dominanation at Rio by defending her Olympic title in uneven bars, edging American Madison Kocian in a tight final. Mustafinas score of 15.9 was just ahead of Kocians 15.833.

Sophie Scheder of German was third. The crowd gave a huge ovation to 41-year-old Oksana Chusovitina of Uzbekistan, competing in her seventh (yes, seventh) Olympics. “I met her a year ago, and we became great friends”.

Simone Biles, a young gymnast from OH, is out there making history at the Rio Olympics. Whitlock’s score of 15.633 was just enough to edge Hypolito, who finished with a 15.533.

Diego Hypolito and Arthur Mariano of Brazil thrilled the home fans by taking home silver and bronze.

US gymnast Simone Biles won gold Thursday and drove NBC to its second highest rated night of 2016 Summer Olympics coverage. She got way more height than any of her competitors, and her form during the twist was flawless.
