“Each year, in addition to the work carried out in the community, The Salvation Army runs a Christmas Present Appeal to ensure no child goes without a gift at Christmas”.

The Salvation Army hosted their annual Thanksgiving lunch this morning at Harbor House for those in need this year.

A home cooked meal of turkey, green beans, and rolls, served hot to men, women and children.

Additional services included various children’s programs, social services and more than 400 meals were provided through the Bread of Life Community Kitchen, all from The Salvation Army.

Thanksgiving is time to be with our loved ones and families will prepare that familiar Thanksgiving turkey.

At the Salvation Army in Shreveport, volunteers and staff fed around 1,500 people on Thursday. “We open it up for people that don’t have a family to go to for Thanksgiving and we invite all people to come be apart of the family of the Salvation Army”, said Redmond.

“We really do need the help”, The Salvation’s Army Youth Worker, Melissa Henderson.

“The bell ringers will be out every day starting Friday at Wal-Mart, and they will be in front of Jewel on weeknights”, said Eric Fisher, We Care of Grundy County executive director.

Miss Queen of the Pacific 2015 Kylie Diosa Duenas says, “I’m definitely humbled”.

For some, today’s meal was just as special as the one they’ll share with family tomorrow. We just couldn’t do it without them. The two aren’t living on the streets like they were at this time past year, but the holidays are still a tough time for them. Another club member, Hector Gonsalez, said, “It’s pretty good to help out people”.
