Thanks to the efforts and support of Packers players, fans and employees throughout the holiday season, $110,862 was donated to the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign, the Packers announced Thursday, December 22nd.
“I feel that if someone hadn’t donated they [the salvation army] wouldn’t have been able to help me”, Sloan said.
Funds are being collected in Christmas kettles throughout the city, at all Salvation Army facilities and online.
That’s part of a broader pattern of donations failing to keep up with last year’s giving levels.
Tallahassee Salvation Army donations are down 25 percent this year compared to last year.
“This is what keeps us going throughout the year”, Bellamy said. On Wednesday, the Salvation Army of Roanoke began distributing gifts from the Angel Tree program.
This year, The Salvation Army’s Christmas Program will serve over a 700 families in the North Bay area with Christmas hampers. They’re looking for lots of people to come out.
“Just yesterday I was standing kettles at a mall in New Jersey”, he said.
Martin says recent bad weather had an impact on kettle donations.
“Give me money”, she said to passersby. We’re hoping to do the best we can.
The number of volunteers this year also is down.
For several weeks he has camped outside various stores, often for eight hours at a stretch. “We saw more people at Thanksgiving”, Major Rock said.
So far, the chapter has helped 89 families for the Christmas holidays, Sears said.
