“Usually our phones are ringing constantly with people signing up but our phones are quiet this week.” said Suzie Docherty, Volunteer Coordinator for The Salvation Army Central Okanagan.
The money raised will help the Salvation Army provide food and shelter to those in need throughout the year. “That option is available in cities like Nashville or Knoxville”.
“We’re doing pretty well”, he said. This year, the tree is located at Chick-fil-A restaurant on North Jackson Street.
She said, “Since we don’t have enough room for physical donations, we only help with financial assistance”. We all see Salvation Army employees with their bells outside the malls, department stores and even Walmart, give Salvation Army a couple dollars to help out. Acosta said. “The need sometimes is still there year after year, but this year we had a lot of applicants that are new”.
A Santa Claus rings a bell for The Salvation Army in front of Macy’s in Union Square on December 22, 2012, in San Francisco, California.
It says there’s now an estimated 22.5 million old phones lying around in drawers and cupboards around the country and Christmas is the ideal time to dispose of them responsibly.
