Salvation Army Providing Thanksgiving Meals to Families

Many residents from around the island gathered at the Chamorro Village in Hagatna for the Salvation Army’s annual Thanksgiving Feast.

“I just thank God for this day another Thanksgiving I’ve never seen before and many more Thanksgivings, I said many more”, said Larry White.

It will go toward everything from feeding local families to operating costs such as “keeping the lights on so we can help people”, he said.

Providing children the joy of receiving and donors the joy of giving.

Volunteers estimated that they served close to 2,000 meals on Thursday, plus another 550 that were delivered to people unable to leave their homes.

Starting Wednesday, the Salvation Army will convert the gym into the Christmas Toy Shop, where less fortunate families can shop for toys for their children.

“It doesn’t happen without them and it doesn’t happen without the generation of this great community”, said Rosen.

“If we don’t do this and one year we were out of town and our kids came and we didn’t, it did not feel like Thanksgiving”, said Kathy Cline, the matriach of the Cline family. He says the organization is constantly looking for more volunteers to help out. They’ve already started packing Christmas food boxes.

“People say ‘y’all out very bad early, ‘” Cunningham said.

Major Walters also wanted to remind everyone that the Salvation Army Angel Tree program kicks off Friday. Teri Smith, Salvation Army. “And so they are coming just to enjoy that time and enjoy the blessing of others that have helped provide that meal for them”, explains Smith.
