Sam Bradford won’t start for Vikings against Titans, per reports

The Tennessee Titans will face off against the Minnesota Vikings in their season opener at Nissan Stadium Sunday. The search ended with Sam Bradford, a 28-year-old with little professional success, often hampered by injuries, whose name recognition still warrants starter-level hype.

When the Philadelphia Eagles sent Sam Bradford to the Minnesota Vikings, the team was given a 2017 first round pick and a 2018 conditional fourth round pick in return.

The two have split reps with the first-team offense in practice this week. Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said Friday afternoon that he had decided on a starting quarterback for the game but would not reveal whether Hill or Bradford would play.

Stefon Diggs, a second-year wide receiver, will have to step up and play more consistently than he did in his freshman campaign.

Goessling also reports that Rhett Ellison, who missed most of training camp while recovering from a torn patellar tendon, is active and will play for the Vikings.

The Minnesota Vikings’ season was filled with so much promise entering 2016.

Bridgewater completed 292 of 447 passes for 3,231 yards with 14 touchdowns and nine interceptions last season to lead the Vikings to an NFC North title and garner a Pro Bowl bid.

PROTECT THAT BALL: For all the great stats Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota put up as a rookie, he’s spent lots of time this offseason trying to cut down one big number: six lost fumbles.

Adrian Peterson and DeMarco Murray, the NFL’s leading rushers the past two seasons, face off on the natural turf.

Football is back! And in the wake of Teddy Bridgewater’s gruesome injury, Minnesota has a great chance to tune up its offense against a Tennessee team years from its prime.
