Sam Foltz, Mike Sadler

The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office in Wisconsin said Foltz was a passenger in a vehicle when the driver former Michigan State punter Mike Sadler lost control on a wet road and hit a tree.

Sadler, 24, graduated from Michigan State and was a member of the 2013 team that won the Rose Bowl.

The deadly crash happened during a strong rain storm in the town of Merton, Foltz was a passenger and died at the scene. A second passenger, identified by police as Colby J. Delahoussaye, 21, from New Iberia, Louisiana, was transported to Waukesha Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Puyol has worked in camps before, and it is not unusual for a handful of kickers and punters to climb into a auto and head back to either their hometowns or college they are attending. Their vehicle lost control on a wet road, according to police.

Sam Foltz was gearing up for his senior season as the reigning Big Ten Punter of the Year.

Foltz was the Big Ten Punter of the Year last season and led the conference with 44.2 yards per punt. After a particularly strong punt during his senior year in ’14, Sadler pretended to pet the cat that popular Twitter parody Fake Bo Pelini had popularized.

Officials with Michigan State didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

“The world has lost a rising star who dreamed big and was accomplishing those dreams, one after another”, Mark Dantonio said in a tweet.

“Our prayers of love and support go out to Sam’s family during this hard time, and we will do all that we can to help comfort them in this time of sadness”, Nebraska athletics director Shawn Eichorst said in a statement. One person after another made it clear he was no ordinary football player.

In a statement released Sunday afternoon, football coach Mike Riley described Foltz, who was 22, as one of the best young men who has ever worn the Nebraska uniform. “I told ’em, ‘It’s impossible for me to say anything to make you feel better”. LSU kicker Colby Delahoussaye survived the crash.

CBS affiliate WLNS in Lansing, Michigan, reports Sadler is the only four-time academic All-American in MSU history and that he was supposed to be attending Stanford Law School this year. You know people like that – they’re just fun to talk to.

Foltz, also a good student, received a degree in agronomy in May.

Former Husker baseball player Blake Headley took to social media with a thought others seemed to be carrying. Puyol won the Don Ruck Award at UConn, an honor open to all student-athletes at UConn and with a criteria similar to the Wuerffel Trophy. “We were having a great time, playing some Jenga, and it started to get late”.
