To have the honour to do Bond is one thing but to get the first ever NUMBER ONE for a bond song is another thing entirely!!

The 23-year-old is the first solo male British singer to perform the opening number for a James Bond film since 1965, when Tom Jones was heard over the credits for Thunderball. “It has-been an unforgettable experience working with Barbara (Broccoli) & Sam (Mendes) to turn out to be part of this British legacy”. Adele’s Skyfall (2012) and Duran Duran’s A View to a Kill (1985) both peaked at number two.

‘I couldn’t have done this without my fans – this is a special moment I’ll never forget’.

Smith could achieve a unique double if Writing’s On The Wall also tops the United States charts.

The rest of the top five sees R City and Adam Levine stay at three with Locked Away, Sigala’s former number one Easy Love slip from two to four, and The Weeknd’s Can’t Feel My Face hold firm at five.

Spectre will hit cinemas in the United Kingdom on October 26.

“Writing’s On the Wall” features in spy thriller “SPECTRE”, released later this month. One critic said the song justified Smith’s claim that it only took 20 minutes to write. No, not really. I’m sure “Writing’s On The Wall” being the most lacklustre Bond theme in years is all Sam Smith’s fault.
