Sam Smith On Writing Bond Spectre Theme Without Seeing the Film

In Britain, the film snatched its predecessor’s opening record with £41.7 million in the days since it opened on October 26. It helps that it’s the widest release of all time for the United Kingdom, opening on 2,500 screens in 647 theaters.

In the Netherlands, Spectre left behind satisfied audiences, picking up $3.9 million.

Spectre is delivering big results for Imax, becoming the first title in history to cross $100,000 in terms of location average, or $105,000 from 47 theaters.

“He did such a great job of parodying all of the old Bond and spy movies that you couldn’t make jokes about Bond without it feeling like it was parody, but we’ve spent a huge amount of time on this movie just trying to find the humour in it”.

Deadline claims EON and MGM “will wait until Spectre plays around the world and accumulates an ungodly global gross that will only strengthen their leverage”.

Even by James Bond standards, expectations are sky-high for Spectre, the 24th entry in the series.

Daniel Craig’s given voice to his innermost thoughts during interviews for Spectre, telling of how his body has been put through the ringer, he’s creatively stifled, he hates the character, he wants rid of Bond and how the production was gruelling. It follows the protagonist as he infiltrates a secret meeting and exposes the organization. Throw in an extremely wooden Bond girl named Holly Goodhead and you’ve got what amounts to cinematic Bond’s biggest detraction from his literary origins. As the daughter of an assassin, she understands Bond in a way most others can not. In this chapter, they’re not adhering to any previous versions of Spectre but rather “rediscovering” it – as well as the supervillain, this time played by the two-time Oscar victor Christoph Waltz as Oberhauser.

Bond now promotes “brand partners who are more real, and more authentic to his (Craig) interpretation of James Bond”, said Collis. It was also the first film in franchise history to cross $1 billion.

Mendes said that “Spectre” recalls the classic Bond films in terms of the cars, the tone, the lighting and even the cut of 007’s suit.
