22 best and worst Bond theme songs ranked: Every single’s here, but which are classics and which need their 00 status revoked?
Smith initially denied he was the voice behind the new 007 song, but later confirmed on Instagram he was honored to join the iconic British legacy. For you, I have to risk it all / Cause the writing’s on the wall’.
The soft, orchestral theme is very reminiscent of Skyfall’s eponymous Adele theme from 2012, but a lot less epic.
The release comes a month before “Spectre”, starring Daniel Craig as Bond, is released in Britain and Ireland on October 26 before a worldwide release on November 6. As for the lyric, “how do I live, how do I breathe?” But there’s no mistaking who sings the more plaintive song.
Jimmy Napes, who co-wrote Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me“, also loaned his pen to “Writing’s on the Wall“, and Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli produced the track. Smith, earlier this week publicized a part of the track to tantalize the listeners.
The coiffed R&B crooner is the first solo British male to perform a Bond theme in 50 years, since Tom Jones recorded Thunderball wayyyyy back in 1965.
Adele was the last artist to sing a theme song for the film franchise, and it earned her an Oscar, GRAMMY and Golden Globe.
“With Bond songs you get to be as dramatic as you want”.
Smith was understandably thrilled, replying, “Roger Moore just said he loves the song”.

Smith tweeted that he had been “dreaming of this moment for a long long time” after unveiling the track on the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show with Nick Grimshaw.
