Mohammed Farooq Ghosi, vice-president of Samajwadi Party’s Maharashtra unit, has written a letter to party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav requesting him to nominate Yakub Memon’s widow to Rajya Sabha.

“Raheen Yakub Memon was also arrested in the Mumbai blast case but the court released her later as charges against her couldn’t be proved”.

“Raheen was in jail for many years”. I feel that Raheen is also helpless.

The Mulayam Singh-led Samajwadi Party announced on Saturday that it has suspended one of its leaders, Mohammed Farooq Ghoshi, for alleged anti-party activities.

Reports say Ghosi may be sacked from the Samajwadi Party. “We should try to give voice to such people by making Raheen a Member of Parliament”, added Ghosi.

The SP leader has mentioned that he finds Memon’s wife helpless and many people in country who face the same issue.

State party president Abu Asim Azmi, however, distanced himself from the matter, saying that an explanation will be sought from Ghosi on the content of his letter. We had no idea about such demand as Ghosi has not even consulted us before approaching Mulayam Singh Yadav. He has written the letter in his personal capacity.

The remarks came just two days after 1993 Mumbai serial blasts convict Yakub Memon was hanged at Nagpur Central Jail. “Nevertheless, the suggestion of making Yakub’s wife an MP is wrong as she is not a political person”, said Azmi.
