Clarifying its stand on the cancellation of Samjhauta Express, India on Friday said the train was among 75 trains travelling through Punjab which were cancelled due to local agitation in the state.
Pakistani officials said the Indian station commander declared the ongoing protests in India as “harmful” for Pakistani passengers.
Intially, Indian railway officials had told Pakistan Railways officials over a special hotline that farmers are protesting in the country and that there were fears of an attack on the train service.
Samjhauta Express train, which travels between Lahore and New Delhi, was stopped at Wagah border on Thursday after the Indian authorities requested Pakistan Railways authorities not to send the train due to security reasons. The train carrying passengers from both sides of the border was offloaded upon reaching Wagah.
