Tim Baxter, president of Samsung Electronics America, said a statement, “Consumer safety is always our highest priority”.

Three weeks after the first incidents of the exploding Galaxy Note 7 were reported and half a month after it issued a global recall for the handheld, Samsung finally confirms the availability of Note 7 replacement units in the United States. But owners are ignoring the warnings, refusing to give up the phones. Canada’s recall notice stated only one report of an overheating battery had been received, with no reports of injury. Samsung is printed on the top front of the phone and Galaxy Note7 is printed on the back of the phone. The good news is that replacements are coming soon, so you should return your unit as soon as possible to the store you purchased it.

“I told somebody yesterday I’m not giving up my Note 7 until they have to pry it from my cold dead hands”, said Cathy Horne of Auburn, Georgia, who uses her phone for news, email and entertainment while commuting on public transit. The recall is the largest in the history of the smartphone industry, but it won Samsung praise from some in the mobile industry for the company’s speed and decisiveness.

While recalls in the smartphone industry do happen, including for rival Apple Inc, the nature of the problem for the Note 7 is a serious blow to Samsung’s reputation, analysts have said. Today, the CPSC is officially involved and working with Samsung on the recall.

The commission urged consumers to immediately cease using the device, power down and switch devices to avoid issues.

“As a general matter it’s not a recipe for a successful recall for a company to go out on its own”, commission chairman Elliot Kaye said.

The IMEI is also located on the back of the phone, near the bottom.

Samsung confirmed in a press release that new Note7 replacement phones will be available at most stores no later than September 21.

Later in the video, Baxter says that there have been 130,000 Galaxy Note 7s returned so far.

Less than 15 percent of the one million U.S. Galaxy Note 7 phones have been returned
